We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to own test automation strategy, framework development, and team leadership within our Quality Engineering function in Pune. You will design and build automation frameworks from scratch where needed, extend and scale existing ones, and lead a team of automation engineers to deliver high-quality, maintainable test coverage across our healthcare SaaS platform. This role goes well beyond writing test scripts. You will set the automation vision for your team, make architectural decisions on tooling and framework design, define coding standards, conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and ensure automation outputs are directly integrated into CI/CD pipelines. You will work hand in hand with QA leads, Scrum Masters, and Engineering teams to shift testing left and reduce defect escape rates across releases.

Key Responsibilities:

Framework Design & Architecture

•       Design, build, and maintain automation frameworks from scratch using Selenium, Playwright, and Testim - selecting the right tool for the right coverage layer.

•       Architect scalable, modular, and reusable framework structures (Page Object Model, BDD, data-driven, hybrid) suited to the complexity of enterprise SaaS platforms.

•       Define framework coding standards, naming conventions, folder structures, and documentation requirements for the automation team.

•       Evaluate and introduce new automation tools, libraries, and approaches as the platform and testing landscape evolves.

•       Own the automation framework roadmap; plan enhancements, refactors, and coverage expansions aligned to product release cycles.

Test Automation Development

•       Write reliable, maintainable automated test scripts for UI, API, regression, smoke, and end-to-end test suites.

•       Build robust scripting solutions in Java, Python, or JavaScript - comfortable with object-oriented design, utilities, and test data management.

•       Develop API automation test suites using tools such as Rest Assured, Postman/Newman, or Playwright's API testing capabilities.

•       Implement data-driven and parameterised test approaches to maximise coverage with minimal script duplication.

•       Ensure test scripts are resilient to minor UI changes; apply smart locator strategies and dynamic waits to reduce flakiness.

CI/CD Integration & Tooling

•       Integrate automation suites into Azure DevOps pipelines; configure triggers, parallelisation, and reporting for nightly, regression, and pre-release runs.

•       Set up and maintain test execution environments, Selenium Grid or cloud grid infrastructure (BrowserStack, Sauce Labs), and test reporting dashboards.

•       Work with DevOps and Engineering to ensure automation gates are embedded at the right stages of the build and release pipeline.

•       Monitor pipeline execution health; diagnose flaky tests, environment failures, and infrastructure issues systematically.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

•       Lead a team of 3-5 automation engineers; assign work, review code, and maintain quality standards across all framework contributions.

•       Conduct regular 1:1s; identify skill gaps and create development plans to grow the team's technical depth.

•       Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on framework design principles, scripting best practices, and debugging techniques.

•       Drive a culture of quality ownership within the team -engineers understand the 'why' behind automation, not just the 'how'.

•       Facilitate knowledge sharing sessions, internal tech talks, and documentation reviews within the automation team.

Quality Strategy & Stakeholder Collaboration

•       Define automation coverage targets per release in collaboration with QA Leads and TPMs; report against these targets in sprint and program reviews.

•       Contribute to test strategy documents, release readiness checklists, and N+1/N+2 regression gate criteria.

•       Collaborate with product squads during sprint ceremonies to identify automation candidates early and plan test effort accurately.

•       Analyse defect trends and automation escape rates; use data to prioritise coverage gaps and framework improvements.

•       Communicate automation health, coverage metrics, and pipeline status to Delivery and QA leadership clearly and on cadence.

Qualifications& Experience:

Required

•       8-10 years of overall software testing experience, withat least 5+ years in a dedicated test automation role.

•       Provenexperience designing and building automation frameworks from scratch - not justmaintaining or extending existing ones.

•       Deephands-on expertise with Selenium WebDriver; able to architect a full frameworkindependently.

•       Strong scripting ability in at least two of: Java,Python, JavaScript - including OOP principles, utilities, and test datahandling.

•       Hands-on experience integrating automation suites intoCI/CD pipelines, preferably Azure DevOps.

•       Experience leading or mentoring a team of automationengineers; comfortable with code reviews and technical guidance.

•       Solid understanding of software testing principles -test pyramid, shift-left, risk-based testing, and regression strategy.

•       Experience with API automation testing alongside UIautomation.

•       Strong analytical skills; able to diagnose flaky tests, infrastructure issues, and coverage gaps systematically.

Preferred

•       Hands-on experience with Playwright - UI and API testscripting across multiple browsers.

•       Exposureto Testim or similar AI-assisted test automation platforms (Mabl, Functionize).

•       Experience in healthcare IT, health insurance, benefitsadministration, or similarly regulated enterprise SaaS.

•       Familiarity with performance or load testing tools(JMeter, Gatling, k6).

•       Exposureto containerised test execution environments (Docker, Kubernetes-based grids).

•       Experience contributing to or owning a QA Center ofExcellence or automation guild.

Certifications:

The following are advantageous:

•       ISTQB Advanced Level - Test Automation Engineer

•       ISTQB Foundation or Advanced Level - Test Analyst

•       AWS / Azure cloud fundamentals (beneficial for pipeline and grid configuration)

•       Certified Selenium Tester or equivalent tool-specific certification

What We Offer:

•       Greenfield opportunity to build and own automation frameworks that directly impact quality across U.S. healthcare products.

•       Access to modern tooling - Selenium, Playwright, Testim, Azure DevOps pipelines, and cloud grid infrastructure.

•       Clear growth path toward Principal Automation Engineer, QA Architect, or Quality Engineering Lead.

•       Collaborative culture with visibility into delivery leadership and architecture decisions.

•       Hybrid work model based in Pune with flexibility.

•       Competitive compensation with performance-linked incentives.
